Girl Rising’s work in India is focused on enhancing the value of girls in their own eyes and in the eyes of society and providing avenues for individuals, organizations, and companies to take positive and concrete action to help girls get to and stay in school.

We currently have two main campaigns in India. With the support of USAID, Intel and Vulcan Productions, the Girl Rising: ENGAGE (Empowering Next Generations to Advance Girls’ Education) initiative is working with public and private sectors, business leaders and influencers to engage communities to understand the value of educating girls. In partnership with Save the Children, Girl Rising: ENGAGE is also working directly with communities’ in Rajasthan and Bihar.

With support from HP and Ogilvy & Mather, Girl Rising is developing a new mass media campaign with the goal of getting more girls across India to pass Class 10 and stay in school. Nationwide, nearly 25 percent of girls leave school before completing Class 5, and more than 40 percent of girls in India don’t make it through secondary school, leading to a huge loss of opportunity for girls, their families and the entire country.
